It’s very disappointing that Aveeno doesn’t put this warning on their box. Colloidal oatmeal is just oatmeal ground into very fine powder, so for babies with oat/wheat allergy, Aveeno products are a big NO NO!!! Baby eczema is mostly related to protein allergy, the most of all dairy protein allergy. Eczema babies are very likely to have allergy to wheat and oat, which contains several kinds of protein. Therefore Aveeno products only worsens eczema condition for those babies! This is what happened to my baby. I want parents to know this and avoid the mistake I made.

Update: I read an article on Reuters, titled “Kids with sensitive skin may be allergic to oats”. The researchers suggest that oat-containing skin products be avoided in children younger than two years old.

    Some excerpt from the article:

“Of 302 children seen at a pediatric dermatology unit in Bordeaux, France, nearly one third had a positive skin reaction to oats, report Dr. Franck Boralevi, at the Hopital Pelligrin-Enfants, and colleagues…… ”

“None of the parents of these children suspected an oat allergy in their child. Previous history taking and clinical examinations also had not identified these allergies, the researchers note…… ”

“Of the children who were tested with oat protein allergy by repeatedly applying oat cream to a skin area previously unaffected by atopic dermatitis, 28 percent developed eczema or other skin eruptions……”

My daughter has eczema that flares up now and again and this works so well! It really soothes her body as well as clearing up the spots (she has numular eczema- little round spots) very quickly. She enjoys it as well, a nice calming addition to the bath. Not a lot of smell or anything.

IT WORKS!! My daughter had a combination of eczema and scars from her battle with impetigo and bad reaction to penicillin and nothing calmed her itching. Every day she had a new breakout from her itching. I visited New York on vacation, where my cousin introduced me to this product and it is the only thing that has really worked. I then gave it to her a neighbor and it has also helped her son. I just wished it was available in Trinidad W.I
